Thoughts Paper Scissors

Hello Everyone!

A couple of weeks back I shared this picture of the aftermath of a busy week of paper crafting on social media.

I also said I’ll do a blog post on this so without further ado here are the products of that busy period. I’m going to show and talk you through the creation of 7 customised Thank You cards for a UK client.

My client recently got a long sought after promotion at work and in gratitude to the Sponsor Partners/Directors at the firm who vouched for his candidacy for the new role, he approached me to create Thank You cards for each of them. He supplied his personal wordings for each recipient, company logo too and requested that I make the cards personalised for each individual.

So here I was with a blank canvas, the task and also the looming deadline. I had quite a good timeframe to get it done but I still thank God for deadlines because I can be quite the procrastinator. Having a deadline therefore gave me the kick I needed to get the job done and delivered on time, while still balancing my 9-5 job (If only it was actually 9-5 *sigh* – in reality it’s longer hours…. but I digress).

The first thing I took into consideration was that all the Sponsor Partners were all male and so was my client, so the designs had to be rather masculine. I researched male cards and there was not that much of an inspiring collection of cards online to jumpstart my creativity. Seems the card industry sticks to clichés of cars, gadgets and ties when talking to men. Since I didn’t know these people personally I wanted to stay away from using any of that kind of imagery in case I got their interests wrong. So I decided to think in more abstract terms and settled on using the geometric patterns from the Art Deco movement as inspiration for the cards.

These attributes were exactly what I wanted these cards to have. I therefore decided that the front of each card will be unique Art Deco pattern with a different thank you message tailored to each recipient which my client and I agreed on. In creating the cards I chose to use white wood embossed card with a red centura paper lining, to match one of the colours on  the company logo. Like I mentioned earlier there were seven cards in all each card was presented in its own individual gift box which I also made.

I was lucky enough to squeeze in a quick photo shoot of the cards before they were sent off. Here are the photos below of the finished pieces.

It felt quite good to finally see these cards completed. It was challenging but also a great learning curve for me. I’m curious to know which of the card designs you guys like the most. Please leave your comments below or on my Facebook page and let me know why you like the card you’ve chosen.
