Hello and welcome to June!
I find it amazing that we’re already half way through the year. So much has happened and there’s still so much more to come.
So going straight into this month’s quote, it’s a proverb from the shores of Japan
Fall seven times and stand up eight
In other words, stay resilient regardless of what life throws at you. Have that determination to never give up and to keep on going despite any setbacks you may face.
Thinking on this, my mind went to my country Nigeria. As a people we face several challenges across board. Yet there’s a dogged determination and resilience in most, if not all Nigerians, to find a way through, around, over and under our issues and keep on striving. This is the ‘Naija Spirit’* (*Naija is a colloquial term for Nigeria/Nigerian) Continue reading
Hello and Welcome to the month of MAY!
It’s also worker’s day which is an added bonus 🙂 I hope you guys are making the most of your day off.
So straight into today’s order of business. I promise this post won’t be as long as last month’s (hehehe). The quote for this month is
Always be kinder than you feel
This quote actually made me think about my interactions with people. There is a saying that when you are gone from this earth people don’t remember what you owned but they remember how you made them feel. I believe everyone wants to leave a positive mark on the world so my interpretation of this quote was therefore to be quite cheerful with bright colours. I also included gift boxes in the quote because kindness is indeed giving the gift of your good self to another person.
Hello & Welcome to the month of April!
Don’t worry I’ve not got any April fools prank in this post I promise 🙂
This month’s quote if from the book titled ‘Oh The Places You’ll Go’ by children’s author Dr Seuss. Though I was familiar with his other books like ‘Cat in the Hat’ and ‘Green Eggs and Ham’, prior to picking this quote, I’d never read this particular book and only read it after I’d designed this April page. The words of the book are really inspiring and motivating so I’ve decided to reproduce them here to give more meaning to this month’s quote, which is;
You’re off to Great Places. Today is Your Day
I hope the words of the book truly inspire you to find your inner greatness and to give yourself permission to go live your dreams. This post is dedicated to everyone who dreams of achieving more and also to my country Nigeria. Congratulations to all Nigerians who took part in the just concluded Presidential elections. As we take new historic strides towards a better democracy I pray we realise our collective power as a people who have the capacity to work together peacefully and move Nigeria towards greater achievements.
Welcome to the new month of March. Can’t believe it’s March already, how time flies. I hope 2015 has been good to you so far and I also hope that the rest of the year shall be truly awesome for everyone.
So on to today’s order of business, this month’s quote is
Start each day with a grateful heart
I’ve been trying hard to put this into practice ever since I decided this would be the quote for March, every morning as I open my eyes I try and say a little thank you prayer. I know it can sometimes be hard to find something to grateful for especially when you feel life isn’t being fair or you’re stressed out. Life can be really hard and it’s easy to get depressed, bitter or even angry about it but I choose to believe that the fact that we are still here, with blood flowing through our veins, means that life isn’t through with us yet and there’s still something left within us that the world is waiting to experience. Isn’t that one good enough reason to be grateful?
Hello and welcome to February!
That my friends also means we’re into the 2nd month of my 2015 Monthly Calendar Project. Yayyyy!
I must admit I wasn’t sure I would be able to get this out as planned. January was quite a challenging month for me health-wise but I was determined to get this done regardless and thank goodness here it is.
So on to this month’s motivational quote which is by Oprah Winfrey, who coincidently turned 61 a few days ago, on January 29th, Happy Birthday Oprah! The quote for February is
“You become what you believe” – Oprah Winfrey
I was quite intrigued when I first read that quote, especially coming from Oprah of whose rags to riches story I think everyone is aware. I sensed that there must be more to it so I got on google and found a short video from Oprah’s Lifeclass where she explains the thinking behind the quote which you can watch below
Today’s post is just me having a little fun with paper. If you’ve seen the movie Guardians of the Galaxy then I don’t need to explain who Groot it. But for those of you who haven’t, I highly recommend you go rent, borrow or buy it. It’s a sci-fi movie set in space with an unlikely group of 5 beings coming together to save the galaxy from evil. It’s such a fun & funny movie and I loved every moment. Continue reading
HELLO & HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
Hope you had a fabulous New Year’s Eve celebration and now ready to face 2015 and everything it has to offer.
As New Year’s traditions go I’m sure quite a few of you have made resolutions or have goals you would like to achieve this year. Yes? No? Did you make any last year? And how many of your targets did you hit or miss? I know I definitely missed my targets with regards to this blog. If blogs could talk I bet mine would give me a good earful about how neglected it must have felt in 2014.
So this year I’ve devised a plan of action to keep me productive on this blog. I actually didn’t have a set plan last year so I’m hoping that since I’ve thought this through it will work out (how well will it work out? I guess I’ll find out in the implementation) . So part of my plan is to create a calendar of motivational quotes. I’m not a big fan of calendars, which could be why I was not that organised last year, so I’m hoping to kill like 3 birds with this stone….talk about ambitious right.
Hello beautiful people!
Today’s post is a bit different from my regular offering, I’m sharing with you my little adventure to Christ the Light of Hope Orphanage (CLOHO) in Akute, Ogun State, Nigeria. Here, I taught a craft class to over 20 children, from age 2 upwards, on how to make smiley faces and butterflies. It was a bit out of my comfort zone but was totally worth the experience.
Today’s post is a celebratory one. IT’S MY BIRTHDAY!! It’s also my niece’s birthday. The little lady turns 10 and I turn….. no point revealing my age because a lot of you won’t believe me anyways. Lol! And no I’m not a ‘vampire’ as some people have tried to convince themselves. You know who you are. Anyways HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO US!! Over here in Nigeria the government has declared today and tomorrow public holidays to celebrate the muslim holiday. HURRAYYY!! Thank you Nigeria for my special birthday gift! 🙂
I’m finally back after a long absence, been a very eventful time away for me. Aside from my 9 to 5 morphing into a speed train that’s trying drive everyone crazy, I also suffered a personal loss of a dear friend which destabilised me for while. But I guess it’s the circle of life, we all have our appointed time here on earth, the only thing is for us to use what little time we’ve been given to the best of our ability. Live your life everyday in the manner in which you would like to be remembered.
Some good news though, if you have liked the Thoughts Paper Scissors page on facebook you’d already have seen my post but in case you haven’t heard, my design for the Panasonic Cut Out the Darkness paper lantern project made it into the final top 100 designs selected for mass production. Many thanks to everyone who voted and if you’re interested in taking part they’re taking new entries for a second competition because it was so popular. Here’s the link http://cotd.panasonic.net/ and you can see my design called ‘Abstract’ on the list of winners.
Now to the order of business, today’s post showcases centerpieces I created for a friend’s wedding a while back. The bride requested I create 3D paper centerpieces of landmarks from countries around the world of places she’s been and would like to visit. She wanted them done in silver and/or bronze. I ended up using silver paper and card with copper foil on some of the designs. I created 18 landmarks in total. Continue reading
